Hi there! I’m an avid cook, baker and recipe developer living in Toronto with my recipe critic hubby and two crazy cats.
I was raised in southern Ontario by two avid German immigrant cooks for parents. A love of tending a garden and orchard, baking, canning, making sausage, wine, fermenting, smoking meats and fish, and trying new dishes!
My inspiration for recipes comes from travel and wanting to bring a Canadian twist to global dishes. Wherever we visit, we immediately hunt down where the locals eat. When I’m not in the kitchen you can find me trolling the hidden gems of boutiques, cafes and food emporiums in our Toronto neighbourhoods. I started blogging in part to preserve the recipes of my childhood. My mom didn’t have her recipes written down, so in her last years I literally shadowed her, writing down everything she did! And now I have a place to memorialize and share them.

cooking ingredient: The egg- its versatility is second to none. For flavour, Harissa. This kicky spice blend works in so many settings, even in baking sweets!
favourite meal: This is what I call my desert island meal, the only one I’d be willing to eat forever (if I had to!), Yotam Ottolenghi’s ‘Chicken with Caramelized Onion and Cardamom Rice’.
favourite course: Breakfast, because you can have breakfast for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It can be sweet or savoury, efficient or leisurely, and there’s nothing like going to a diner for bacon and eggs!
favourite kitchen tool: A really sharp knife. Sure the KitchenAid mixer and microplane are busy, but without a good knife, there will be frustration and perhaps crying! It travels with me

favourite restaurant: Balthazar in New York City. Classic French bistro cuisine is always a comfort. And their cookbook is a joy to use.
favourite foodie city: San Francisco. The restaurant scene here is vibrant, creative, forward thinking and really epitomizes the ‘locavore’ and ‘farm to table’ mentality. There’s something for everyone.
